FABRICATE
From Production to Expression
A workshop on digital design methods & production technique by using Rhinoceros
13-29 October 2008
Instructors:
Ting-Ting Zhang & William Tan
1) To introduce digital generative design and production methodology to its participants.
2) To exploring the possibilities and capacity of generative design, CNC fabrication and the coupling of these two technologies.
3) Students will be ‘designing through making’ – a methodology that focuses on the expression of form, its function and its structural composition all at once.

Introduction
TEAM SIX (the only all-girls group) decided to work on the Torus model, the only model which has two layers to it. There are the outer rings, the inner rings, and the arches that join both components and hold up the structure. The space created within the model is an enclosed and cozy one.
The team consists of 8 people. 2 were responsible for editing the 3D model and doing up the construction drawings, 1 for rendering and designing the panels, and 5 for nesting. Subsequently all of us contributed in assembling the real model, which stands 44cm wide and 28cm tall.
From this teamwork-based workshop we learnt that communication among the members is crucial. We learnt that having fun as we work is equally crucial.
